Garrison Today

Vision

Garrison Brewing Company will strive to create premium, full-flavored beer that fully deserves the pride and support of Halifax and Nova Scotia residents alike. We will remain focused at all times on quality control, customer satisfaction, sound business practices and increasing shareholder value.

Seaport District

In May 2006, nearly a decade after producing the first batch of Garrison's signature “Irish Red Ale”, the microbrewery established a permanent home within the Halifax Seaport District, a vibrant arts, culture and tourist destination. The 1929 character building houses an open-concept brewery, hospitality room and retail store, offering daily sampling, cold beer sales and private catered events up to 200 persons. Visitors experience true craft-brewing surrounded by the beauty of hardwood ceilings, exposed brick, iron girders and high windows throughout.

Garrison Hopyard at Ross Farm Museum

Following two years of worldwide hop shortage, Garrison Brewing had a unique solution - plant your own! The idea came to company president Brian Titus after noticing wild hops at Ross Farm Museum. Traditionally used for making bread and beer, hops were a common sight in Nova Scotia during the early 1900s.
Today, visitors of Ross Farm can watch costumed re-enactors tend the hop vines. In mid-summer, hops can grow nearly 12 inches a day and up to 30 feet overall! The hops are then harvested in early September. “The goal is a brew made with 100 per cent local ingredients, and this will bring us a step closer” says Titus.
A mix of Cascade and Willamette hops were planted in May of 2009. To celebrate, Garrison launched their hugely popular Hopyard Pale Ale!
